Not far from Vondelpark there is a hidden gem of wonders, the biggest walk-in closet of Amsterdam, if not Holland. That gem is called the Makeover Factory and it’s where the it-kids come to borrow their infamous outfits and where stylists find that missing link in their creations.

The Makeover Factory owns a fashion and fun collection which consists of original vintage pieces and custom made designs. Their collection dates back to 1900 and there is nothing you won’t find here. You are probably thinking, “okay, but this is not of any help to me, since I am not a stylist nor do I own a company with which I can borrow these pieces”. Well, you’re wrong, because you don’t have to be or own any of the above. Everyone can get an ultimate show stopper at the Makeover Factory, and since the festival season has just begun, we decided to show you a fraction of the options you’ll find inside this clothing heaven.

The Makeover Factory, formally known as Alternatief Kostuum Amsterdam, was established by Monique Ebbs, a multi-talented woman with a vision. After graduating from Theater Design back in 1997, she started her beloved company and moved from place to place, until she settled in a beautiful warehouse on the Pilotenstraat. A radiant and imposing space stacked with endless racks of clothing and accessories.

While hunting for outfits we’re surrounded by talented stylists like Margriet Procee, Fleur Enderberg, Manon Blom and Indiana Romana Voss. Monique tells us that the old and new generation have been crossing paths here ever since she started her company twenty years ago. This creates an open and familiar environment. It doesn’t matter if you’re the owner of a huge company or a twenty-something student with an invitation to a themed birthday, everyone is welcome here. It’s nice to have this great vibe when you’re a first time customer or just want to have a look around.

The Makeover Factory has done an enormous variety of assignments; Monique and her team have styled an entire fashion throwback show for 100 years of Sacha Shoes. They have done styling for party people of Valtifest, Mystery Land, Valhalla, Manifesto, and Wasteland. They have supplied a huge amount of costumes for De Heineken Ontvoering, Skins, De Helleveeg and other historical Dutch movies, the list goes on and on. But they specialise in big group makeovers within styles like Disco and Studio 54, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Burlesque, Cirque, Burning Man and Mad Max.

This place is the answer to all your outfit crises coming up this season. The prices for borrowing an outfit vary from 25,- to 65,- depending on the exclusivity of the pieces, which is next to nothing if you consider what you will be flaunting that day, night or even weekend. Monique and everyone that works at the Makeover Factory is very inspiring to be around.
Make sure to make an appointment so they can help you in every way possible. Don’t be afraid to go crazy!
